AL-ANON/ALATEEN LITERATURE FOR MEMBERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Welcome to the Web Site supported by the Al-Anon and Alateen Groups in Northern California On this group of pages, we have listed the Al-Anon and Alateen literature that is available in Braille, cassette tapes and large print type. Some cassettes and large print books are distributed by Al-Anon Family Groups, Inc. and may be available locally. To find where to obtain literature, including large print and cassettes from Al-Anon or Alateen in Northern California, click here.

Al-Anon Family Groups, Inc has given permission to reproduce its literature in Braille, on cassette tapes and in large print to agencies serving the blind throughout the United States and Canada. Each agency listed has its own prices, policies and procedures for obtaining Al-Anon and Alateen literature. Please be sure to inquire about and follow the particular requirements of the agency that is contacted. Listing these agencies on our web site is not an endorsement of these agencies. Rather it is our hope that literature becomes available to the greatest number of families affected by the disease of alcoholism.

Not all Al-Anon/Alateen Conference-Approved Literature has been transcribed into Braille, cassette tapes or large type. If a title does not appear on this listing, we suggest that you contact an agency serving the visually impaired in your area. In turn, the agency will contact the World Service Office to request permission to transcribe copyrighted Al-Anon literature. By doing so, you will help others because your request can increase the amount of Al-Anon/Alateen literature that is available for the visually impaired.

AGENCIES PROVIDING AL-ANON LITERATURE ON LOAN

The Al-Anon World Service Office makes every attempt to inform providers that Conference Approved Literature is not to be combined with any other material. Each provider, however, has their own policies and procedures for serving the blind, deaf and others with special needs. Listing in this directory does not endorse nor constitute approval of any agency or service provider. Under a special provision of the US copyright law, regional and sub-regional libraries are able to produce materials through the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. If a private agency is interested in producing Al-Anon materials in special formats, they may contact the World Service Office and request permission. When you request materials in special formats through the National Library Service, the amount of available Al-Anon/Alateen literature increases and other members with special needs will benefit from your request. If we can be of further service, please feel free to contact the World Service Office:

In cooperation with a network of regional and sub-regional libraries, the Library of Congress provides a free library service to persons who are unable to read or use standard printed materials because of a visual or physical impairment. Books and magazines in recorded form (talking books) or in Braille are delivered to eligible readers by postage-free mail and are returned in the same manner. Specially designed record players and cassette players are also loaned free to persons borrowing talking books. Under a special provision of the US copyright law and with the permission of authors and publishers of works not covered by the provision, the National Library Service selects and produces full-length books and magazines in Braille and on recorded disc and cassette. Several Al-Anon publications are available. Anyone who is unable to read or use standard printed materials as a result of temporary or permanent visual or physical limitation may receive the services. Eligible United States citizens residing in foreign countries are served directly by the National Library Service through the Network Services Section listed in the International Section.
