Upcoming - Hospitals and Institutions Conference 411:
Greetings from the Area PI/CPC Coordinator!
Let me try and give a bit of H&I history and how District #5 is involved with the 36th Annual H&I Conference "Honesty and Integrity." The Northern California Council of Alcoholics Anonymous Hospital and Institution Committee with Al-Anon and Alateen participation puts on this yearly event. The local AA and Al-Anon districts are hosting the conference this year, April 13 -15 at the Petaluma Vets Building. Read more >

Question Corner - All about Chips:
To whom it may concern,
I am an alcoholic and I was wondering how it is that you give your chips to Al-Anon members, my girlfriend's mother has been in the program of AA for 6 years and she has stood by her and now me. If you could write back on what I would have to do to get her a chip I would appreciate it, or if she is even eligible to get one. Read more >

Topic - Serenity:
Serene Energy = Serenity
I believe in a higher power and the spiritual growth that is offered through the 12 steps. However, I also believe that within my higher power an energy field exists which causes me to naturally align with the surrounding energies in which I choose to place myself… be they positive or negative. My serenity tends to increase as I surround myself with others who are on the path to living a life free from conflict. The environment of Al-Anon has become one such place for me and one to which I am very grateful. Read more >

Institutions Coordinator Report:
How does Hospitals and Institutions service work? H & I needs volunteers to facilitate meetings. Informational meetings for families and friends of addicts are held at recovery centers around the district. These meetings may be the first introduction to Al-Anon for many of the people attending the group. Slogans, tools, literature, experience, strength, and hope are shared with the newcomers.

Website Coordinator's Report:
Recently I was asked, “Where can I find the Alagram (our District newsletter) on the web site?” The answer is, you have found it. The website does not have a button you can click that will take you to a picture of the newsletter. There is some content that for copyright or privacy reasons I cannot reproduce on the internet. What the web site does have is this News and Events page, where you can come to find out what's new month by month. From there the “Read More“ links will take you to expanded articles and more - just click on what you want to read.
Many of the reports and articles are also printed in the Alagram. There will be times when the web site has exclusive or expanded content, such as the full three-part share that is published here this month, whereas there was only room to publish the first part in the newsletter.... Read more >

Woman letting go of a bird

Topic - Hospitals and Institutions:
A member’s three-part share…

I had decided, the emphasis here being on “I,” that my son would be healed, would stop using drugs and alcohol, if only he could go to a treatment program. Never mind that he had never once talked about wanting to do this, or wanting help in any way, or even considered that he had a problem. Ah, denial, again alive and well in every cell of my body.... INSPIRATION

Take a survey...
HOLIDAY BASH FOLLOW-UP

At the January district meeting your Group Representatives voted to make the Holiday Bash an annual event. A couple of new questions have been added to the survey based on Paula's (Events Coordinator) district report this month. She shared that the Bash commmittee had talked about the possibility of getting a babysitter. Also there was the question of whether having a band was the best way to spend the district's money, as the cost was about half of the roughly $1500 spent on the event; the band had to be paid for 4 hours but only played for a couple of hours; and by the time they were through playing most of the people who attended had left the bash.
To best serve the needs of you, the district members, your input is requested. Please answer any of these survey questions or send whatever comments you wish on the subject via email.

  1. Did you attend the Holiday Bash this year? If so, what did you like about it?
  2. What do you think we could do to improve for next year?
  3. If you didn't attend, why not?
  4. Is there anything we could change that would persuade you to attend next year?  Would having a babysitter or not, and/or having a band or not make a difference for you?
